Evaluation of the results of surgical treatment of disc herniation depending on the severity of pain

Introduction. Discopathy is reason abort 80% back pains. The pain of the lumbar spine and sciatica persisting over longer time significantly worsens the quality of life and forces to take a decision about the surgery. The degenerative low back diseases are the most often causes of the restrain of the physical activity among young middle‑aged people. Choosing the right treatment is a very difficult task to do. That is because there are many different methods and many various techniques that are used in the treatment of the degenerative changes of low back. Aim. The assessment of the efficiency surgical treatment of discopathy in depend as well as an evaluation of the degree of intensity pain. Material and methods. Study material included a group of 100 patients (43 women, 57 men), who were operated at the Department of Neurosurgery of Provincial Hospital in Tarnow. The research was conducted with the use of authors questionnaire, scale VAS. The data were collected before and after surgery. Results. After the surgical treatment satisfaction intensity of pain decreased. Conclusions. Results in the early period after the operation show the large effectiveness of the surgical treatment of the discopathy.
