Hypoxic‑ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is an important cause of mortality and long‑term disability of babies born after 36 weeks of pregnancy. Until an acceptance hypothermia as a therapeutic method newborns with symptoms HIE were treated symptomatically. Therapeutic hypothermia has given a chance to improve prognosis with these infants. The paper presents: mechanisms of action, the rules of eligibility, contraindications and therapeutic hypothermia methods. It also shows a degree of encephalopathy hypoxic‑ischemic.
