Life with a breast cancer requires changes in attitudes towards changing reality and re-evaluation of various fields of life. Recently, in accordance with instructions of World Health Organisation (WHO), a lot of attention is being paid to the quality of life of patients both during and after the cancer treatment. The main focus is put on the life quality during a complimentary treatment, that is chemotherapy. Long term experience shows that chemotherapy has many side effects, thus affects the lives of the patients significantly. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the quality of life of women after the mastectomy and during the complementary treatment - chemotherapy. The research was conducted on 171 women after mastectomy who were also subjected to standard chemotherapy. There were two research tools used, which were a standardised, commonly adopted in evaluation of the quality of life questionnaire of patients during chemotherapy, namely EORTC QLQ-C30 (version 3.0) in Polish, as well as authorial survey consisting of two parts: socio-demographical and medical. The conducted research and its analysis proved that higher standard, that is financial situation, accommodation conditions, constant income contribute to higher evaluation of quality of life and alleviate the deteriorating and strenuous effects of chemotherapy. It is also proven, that working women with support from family tend to assess their quality of life as better, and complain less about ailments related to subjection to mastectomy or side effects of chemotherapy.

Key words: breast cancer, mastectomy, chemotherapy, quality of life.
