Introduction. Bronchial asthma is currently one of the most significant medical health problems affecting about 235 million patients globally. In Poland, there are 4 to 5 million people suffering from asthma, which causes the disease to become a serious socio-economic problem. The frequency of this disease is constantly increasing, especially among children living in urban agglomerations. Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the price of non-reimbursed drugs as well as the analysis of original and generic drugs preferences in selected pharmacies in the city of Poznan. Material and methods. The study was conducted based on a self-developed questionnaire. Results. The results show that patients with asthma when buying non-reimbursed drugs most often ask pharmacists for their replacement. Therefore patients do not pay attention to whether the drug is generic or original. A small group of respondents also provided information on the price of the described drugs i.e. Flunase Allergy, Rhinocort 32 µg/dose, 64 µg/ dose, Ventilastin Novolizer, Singulair 4 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg what made it possible to conclude that the prices of non-reimbursed drugs in "individual" pharmacies were higher than in "network pharmacies". Conclusions. In conclusion, it is important to find that the treatment of patients suffering from bronchial asthma which is effective and at the same time cheaper, cooperation between patients and health care workers is needed. The study confirmed that patients are seeking information about their medication at a pharmacy and in order for that help to be reliable and at the highest level, pharmacists education is needed. Moreover patients' awareness of the differences between generics and original drugs should also be increased.

Key words: bronchial asthma, non-reimbursed drugs, originators, generic drugs.
