Polyphenolic compounds are the largest group of natural plant antioxidants with a diversified structure, properties and functions. These compounds have a number of benefits to health inter alia antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antiallergic, anticancer and antiatherogenic properties. The growing number of cases of the diseases known as the civilization diseases is the cause of the rising interest of researchers and doctors in natural methods of prevention and treatment of this type of ailments. Epidemiological studies indicate that the polyphenolic compounds can be used in the prevention and treatment of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and some types of cancer.
